First of all, on behalf of IMPACT! welcome to the Civic Engagement System. My name is Tammy Wong and I will be your alumni facilitator at the conference this September. I sincerely apologize that my email is coming a little late after you were all accepted, but I promise from now on, I will be plugged in and very engaged with everyone!
For starters, I’d love to hear from each of you. Simply click “Reply” and let me know what the best method of communication will be for me to contact you this summer. (Ex. Email, Skype, IM, BBM, etc. And your contact info.) This email is going to be a little long, as I have several important reminders and deadlines for everyone. Please take note of each section.

IMPACT! Online Community
If you have not yet logged on to our IMPACT! Community to update your profile, please do this as soon as possible. I will be using the Discussion Board, Calendar, and Folders on the Community quite regularly and would like this to be everyone’s hub for information. Your pre-conference work has already been outlined our System’s home page. (link should work if you’re signed in)
Attached is a “How To” guideline for using the community. If you have any questions, just ask! To ensure everyone is well acquainted with the community, I would like everyone to post an intro on the Discussion Board. There is already a topic there entitled, “Introductions – Civic Engagement”. This will allow us to get to know each other better within our own community.
Anything you will need to find in terms of your pre-conference work or resources will be available on the Community. Moving forward, there will also be a variety of topics on the Discussion Board, so join us in the conversation!
I am sure you’re all very excited to meet the rest of the IMPACT-ers this Fall. As an alumnus of the program, I will say that you are going to make some lifelong friends at IMPACT! and will be blown away by the stories you will hear. It is undeniably one of the most energetic and cohesive groups of people I have ever met. You will soon experience the passion of students from all over Canada, and I cannot wait to watch the synergies flourish!
For our group, I thought it would be a good idea to get this connection started! Here’s how:
BBM Group Bar Code (attached): Join us and share any thoughts you have or ask any immediate questions. I love conversations and idea sharing, so here’s one way! We’d love to get to know you better!
Online Community: 1) Discussion Board – feel free to start topics, share ideas, share links to articles/video clips, etc. TED Talks are great for discussion! 2) Update your profile and Add Connections – our group members are all listed in the Civic Engagement System page. 3) Homepage – there are several discussions going on from the larger group. Join in and fuel the conversations!
Facebook & Twitter: It’s inevitable. Our generation is plugged in to the social network! Share your twitter handle & add friends
Stay tuned for more!
